Dear Members of the Pace University Community:
It is with great sadness that I advise you that Dr. Elizabeth (Bette) J. Lott died on Friday, September 24, 2004, in her home in Wantage, New Jersey. Officials have ruled her death a homicide, but no other information is available at this time as authorities continue their investigation.
Professor Lott had been a distinguished member of the full-time faculty of the Economics Department of Dyson College in New York City since 1985. Her research interests included regional and urban studies, labor economics, underdevelopment, and children's health. She received her Master's and Ph.D degrees from Columbia University. Prior to coming to Pace, she held faculty positions at North Texas State University, Trenton State University, and Rutgers University.
Professor Lott was a dedicated teacher and very active in faculty governance. She served as chairperson of the Economics Department and on a variety of faculty council committees, including curriculum, faculty affairs, and fringe benefits.
Please join me in extending our sympathies to Professor Lott's children, Dr. Joseph Liotta and Ms. Virginia Liotta, and her two grandchildren, as they mourn her tragic passing. Our thoughts also go out especially to her colleagues and students in the Department of Economics and Dyson College. Counseling Services are available for any member of the University Community at 156 William Street, 12th floor, or at extension 1526.
Funeral arrangements for Dr. Elizabeth J. Lott, long-time Pace University professor of economics, have been set.
